The Light of Christ shines upon all
Coffee Corner – Café Ruth
The Third European Ecumenical Assembly, taking place in Sibiu, between 4-9 September 2007, is a unique opportunity for the Christian women from Romania and from the rest of Europe to present to the representatives of the Churches the work they have been carrying out within the Church and in society.
It is already a tradition that women present at ecumenical assemblies (Graz, Trondheim, etc) gather around and express their position on women’s activity within the Church and in various areas of society.
Therefore,
- the Ecumenical Association of Churches in Romania – AIDRom, Women Department,
- the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women, with the big help and support from the group of Christian women associations from Sibiu:
The Romanian Evangelical (C.A.) Women Organization
The Association of the Unitarian Women from Romania (AFUR)
The Association of the Orthodox Women from Sibiu
The Ecumenical Forum of Romanian Christian Women,
Suggested a place where delegates of the Churches will have the possibility to meet for a cup of coffee, during the breaks of the Assembly, and to participate in several discussions on selected themes.
The aim of this coffee corner is to host, during the five days of the Assembly, presentations of the programmes ran by the Ecumenical Forum of Romanian Christian Women and by the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women in the last years, and also testimonies of the activities carried out by Christian Romanian women through the years, as well as discussions based on the main themes of the Assembly:
- The Light of Christ shines upon all – Living in diversity – Ecumenical work at grass root level
- The Light of Christ and the World – Gender stereotypes in Church and society
- The Light of Christ and Europe – Women’s vision on the new Europe – Migration impact and family life.
The coffee corner will be organised at Casa Teusch and will be called “Café Ruth”, a name based on the biblical example given by Ruth, the image of the strong women, who never leaves her path, who always keeps her faith and dignity inspite of harsh circumstances, and on the one given by Ruth Epting, honorary president of the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women, who help on the development of the ecumenical movement, through her determination and unshakeable faith in times of need, through her pioneer’s work on women’s ecumenical movement.
We hope that this initiative will have an echo, to reconsider woman’s position within the Church, so that the message of this meeting - “The Light of Christ shines upon all” - would be fulfilled.
